ASUNCION, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Former Paraguay international goalkeeper Justo Villar has announced his retirement from football.

The 41-year-old, who quit Paraguay's national team in May, said on Monday that he had also decided to end his career at club level.

"I want to announce that I will stop playing competitive football," Villar said in a video posted on social media.

"I can only thank those with whom I shared happy and sad moments. I will definitely stay involved in some capacity with football, which is what I love."

Villar was capped 119 times for Paraguay in an international career spanning 19 years.

He was a member of the team that reached the quarterfinals of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and was named the best goalkeeper of the 2011 Copa America.

His club career included spells at Libertad, Newell's Old Boys, Valladolid, Estudiantes, Nacional and Colo-Colo.
