Northeast China's Shenyang sees hottest day in 67 years

SHENYANG, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Shenyang, capital of northeast China's Liaoning Province, on Thursday experienced its hottest day on record since 1951 as the temperature reached 38.4 degrees Celsius.

The temperature was recorded at 3:48 p.m., exceeding the previous high of 38.3 degrees Celsius on July 18, 1952, according to the city meteorological bureau.

The city started to keep complete weather records in 1951. Records show hottest days usually occur in June or July.

Excessive heat started to linger in the province on July 28.

The provincial meteorological bureau said the heat wave will continue till Sunday, with the highest temperature to exceed 40 degrees Celsius in some areas of the province.
