BERLIN, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Bayern Munich's Javi Martinez scored the sole goal of the match to edge Manchester United 1-0 in a pre-season friendly on Sunday.

The German record champions dominated the encounter over the full 90 minutes whereas Premier League outfit Manchester United staged an uninspired performance.

Robert Kovac's men grabbed the reins from the kick off and came to their first chances as Thiago Alcantara and Serge Gnabry tested goalkeeper David de Gea with long-range efforts.

Jose Mourinho's side staged a surprisingly uninspired performance in the first 45 minutes with just five days shy of their season opener.

After the half time, Bayern started where they left off and pressed hapless Manchester United into the defense.

The "Bavarians" came close to open the scoring with ten minutes into the second half when new arrival Leon Goretzka headed dangerously on target from close range.

Javi Martinez marked the opener eventually five minutes later after heading home Thiago Alcantara's corner in the 60th minute.

Bayern remained in full control of the proceedings and should have added more goals to their lead but neither Robert Lewandowski nor Leon Goretzka were able to extend the lead.

"I have to compliment my team for today's performance. We have been training very well lately. Today we dominated the game and allowed no chances nothing," Kovac said. Enditem
