BUENOS AIRES, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Chile international midfielder Marcelo Diaz has joined Argentine first division club Racing Club on a three-year deal.

The 31-year-old arrives from Mexico's UNAM Pumas, who accepted a transfer fee of around 2.8 million euros.

"A new challenge begins and so does a new adventure in my life," Diaz said in a social media post. "I'm sure that my family and I are going to fully enjoy our time at Racing."

"As I've done all my career, I'm going to wear the shirt with great honor and sacrifice."

Diaz is the third Chilean to sign with Racing ahead of the 2018-19 Superliga Argentina season, joining goalkeeper Gabriel Arias and defender Eugenio Mena.

Racing will begin their Superliga campaign with an away clash against Atletico Tucuman on Monday. On Thursday, the club from Avellaneda in greater Buenos Aires will host local rivals River Plate in the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores, South America's top club competition.
