ASUNCION, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Colombia's international striker Miguel Borja scored two second-half goals as Brazil's Palmeiras defeated Paraguayan side Cerro Porteno in the first leg of their Copa Libertadores round of 16 clash on Thursday.
Borja broke the deadlock just after halftime by poking in at the far post after a Dudu set piece. The 25-year old then ran onto a deft Moises pass and blasted a first-time shot through the legs of goalkeeper Antony Silva.
Borja has now scored eight goals from seven matches in the current edition of South America's top club competition.
It was Palmeiras' first victory since former Brazil boss Luiz Felipe Scolari began his third spell in charge of the club last week.
The return match will be played at Palmeiras' Allianz Parque in Sao Paulo on August 30.
In other last 16 matches on Thursday, Racing Club drew 0-0 at home to their Argentine rivals River Plate and Atletico Tucuman, also of Argentina, won 2-0 at home to Colombia's Atletico Nacional.
