BEIJING, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shares extended gains Friday, with real estate, agricultural and medical sectors contributing to the rise.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index went up 0.03 percent to close at 2,795.31, while the Shenzhen Component Index climbed 0.7 percent to close at 8,813.49.
Combined turnover at the two bourses shrank to 288.2 billion yuan (42.1 billion U.S. dollars) from 347.1 billion yuan the previous trading day.
The agricultural sector saw widespread gains, with shares of Shandong Denghai Seeds Company, a Shenzhen-listed seed producer, jumping by the daily limit of 10 percent.
Real estate stocks registered strong performance. China Vanke Company, a major developer, saw its share price up 3.11 percent.
The medical sector extended gains. Jiangsu Hengrui Medicine, a large-cap pharmaceutical firm, surged 4.44 percent Friday after jumping 7.04 percent the previous day.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board, gained 0.94 percent to close at 1,511.71.
