BERLIN, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Germany's Christin Hussong ensured the women's javelin gold with a throw of 67.90 metres at the European Championships in Berlin's Olympic Stadium on Friday.

The 24-year-old sewed up Germany's third gold medal with her first throw, which was enough to set a new championships record.

The competitors remained far behind as Czech Republic's Nikola Ogrodnikova came on second place with a throw of 61.85 metres and Lithuania's Liveta Jasiunaite took bronze with 61.59 metres.

"It may be my last international championship in Germany. Who knows when we will have another European Championship or World Cup in Germany," Hussong said.

The first edition of the European Championships is a multi-sport event featuring aquatics events, rowing, gymnastics, cycling, triathlon and golf in Glasgow and athletics in Berlin.

The championships is running from Aug. 2-12 with more than 4,500 athletes competing for 187 gold medals. Enditem
