BERLIN, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Norway's Jakob Ingebrigtsen secured the gold medal after clocking 3 minutes 38.10 in the 1,500m men's final at the European Championships in Berlin's Olympic Stadium on Friday.

The 17-year-old athlete snatched his first senior gold medal after outpacing Poland's Marcin Lewandowski with 3 minutes 38.14 seconds and Britain's Jake Wightman with 3 minutes 38.25 seconds.

"The key was the first 800m today. I managed it and I cannot believe I got silver. I wanted to leave my heart on the track just to please the fans, my family, my friends who came here to support me," silver medallist Lewandowski said.
