ISTANBUL, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- A Turkish court on Tuesday released two Greek soldiers from prison who were arrested in Turkey's northwestern province of Edirne in March over a border crossing incident, local media reported.

The Hurriyet daily said the soldiers, who have been accused of "attempting military espionage" and "entering into a military forbidden zone," were released from the jail in Edirne, pending trial.

The soldiers, who were identified as Aggelos Mitretodis and Dimitros Kouklatzis, stated in their accounts that they lost their way due to bad weather and crossed the border inadvertently.

Previously a local court in Edirne refused the duo's subsequent appeals for release, escalating the tension between the two neighboring NATO allies.
