BEIRUT, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Hezbollah's leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah on Tuesday called on political parties to maintain their negotiations efforts until they reach consensus on cabinet formation in Lebanon.

"We hope that discussions among political parties lead to a positive result," he said in a televised speech.

Nasrallah said his party wants to avoid taking it to the street to pressure for the formation of a new government.

"Our country is secure today and we want to preserve this status quo," he said.

Nasrallah said that Lebanon should not count on foreign powers to help in forming a government.

Prime Minister Designate Saad Hariri is facing various hurdles in his attempt to form a 30-member national unity government, due to the rifts among rival politicians over the representation of the main Christian parties, as well as the Druze sect.

Hariri said Tuesday that more time is needed to form a new government in Lebanon.

"There is no progress yet in the government formation, but at least there is no more tension among the different political parties," Hariri was quoted as saying by Elnashra, an independent online newspaper.
