RIYADH, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- Saudi Arabia has donated 100 million U.S. dollars for the Global Coalition to Defeat Islamic State (IS) militant group, Saudi Press Agency reported on Friday.

The donation will be allocated to stabilize projects in areas liberated from the IS in northeastern Syria, said the report.

The donation is the largest coalition contribution to date for the liberated areas, following the pledge made by Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir during Global Coalition Ministerial Conference in Brussels in July, the report said.

The substantial contribution will play a critical role in the coalition's efforts to revitalize communities, such as Raqqa, which have been devastated by IS terrorists.

The funds will focus on projects to restore livelihoods and essential services in the areas of health, agriculture, electricity, water, education, transportation and rubble removal.

Saudi Arabia has been a member and supporter of the coalition since its formation in 2014 as part of its war against terrorism that affected its lands through deadly terrorist blasts and attacks in the previous years.
