LONDON, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- Premier League champions Manchester City have confirmed on Friday that Belgium international winger Kevin De Bruyne will miss the next three months of the season after suffering a ligament injury in his right knee.

The 27-year-old suffered the injury during training on Wednesday and was flown to Barcelona on Thursday in order to have the injury assessed.

The good news for De Bruyne and City coach Pep Guardiola is that the injury will not require surgery, but he will not be able to play until the end of November. Thus, he will miss the start of his club's Champions League campaign as well as key Premier League fixtures against Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and local rivals Manchester United, who visit the Ethiad Stadium on Nov. 11th.

Last season, De Bruyne scored 8 goals and provided 16 assists in the Premier League, and was a key player as Belgium reached the semifinals of this summer's World Cup, eventually finishing the tournament in third place.
