China's beach volleyballers win Asian Games preliminary matches

PALEMBANG, Indonesia, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese beach volleyball teams started their voyage by winning their openers on Sunday at Indonesia's Palembang Sports Complex (JSC), the co-host along with Jakarta of the 2018 Asian Games.

In the women's field, China's top pairing Wang Fan/Xia Xinyi downed South Korea duo Kim Hyun-ji/Kim Ha-na 21-3, 21-10 within 30 minutes in Group A. Wang had paired with Yue Yuan to take the bronze medal in 2014 Incheon Asian Games.

Wang Xinxin/Zeng Jinjin breezed over Yu Yahsuan/Pang Tzuyi of Chinese Taipei 16-21, 21-19 and 15-10 in 49 minutes.

In the men's action, China's Gao Peng/Li Yang scored a 21-11, 21-10 victory over Hsu Chenwai/Wu Shinshian in 29 minutes, while Wu Jiaxin/Aboduhalikejian Mutailipu defeated Alikhail Obaidullah/Mayar Najibullah of Afghanistan 21-4 and 21-10.

During the last Asiad in Incheon, South Korea, China won the women's gold medal and men's silver medal.

On Sunday, the hosts also won their respective matches as women's pair Desi Ratnasari/Yoked Purari Eka beat Kazakhstan's Alina Rachenko/Yerozavita Yeropkina 21-10, 21-14, and Ade Chandra Rachmawan/Muhammad Asfiyah outclassed Asifi Ozair Mohammad/Ahmadi Mohib Jan of Afghanistan 21-8, 21-7 in the men's field. "We're already customized with the conditions here, including directions of the wind. It gives us more confidence to face this tournament," Rachmawan said on the sidelines of the match.

Indonesia is fielding in four men's and women's teams for the Asiad, targeting the gold medal in the men's beach volleyball.
