YAOUNDE, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Cameroon coach Clarence Seedorf expressed on Monday his determination to reinforce the football team ahead of Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2019.

"We have quite a package to bring onboard but first we have to know what exactly is needed. We will spend our time to form the best team that will represent us next year," Seedorf told a press conference in Yaounde. It was his first press conference after signing a four-year contract with Cameroon early this month.

Cameroon will host Afcon next year and there are high expectations for the country to win the championship but Seedorf cautioned against blind optimism.

"I don't think we should make the mistake to think that everything will be easy. We will be playing home and that means super pressure. Morocco has improved, Egypt has a great team as well but we know that we have great players and we are confident we can be very competitive," he said, adding that he will spend ten days in Cameroon working with players and staff on his vision and programme for the team.

He said the team will consist mainly of "great professionals from great clubs".

The former Dutch International announced a 23 man squad that will face Comoros Island in a 2019 Afcon qualifiers next month. The squad excluded team captain, Benjamin Moukandjo who currently plays for Beijing Renhe in Chinese Super League as a forward.

"We decided that we will not call the players in China for this particular match because it is a very long trip and they are in a very important moment of their career right now," Seedorf said.
