Chinese fencer Sun Yiwen wins silver of women's individual epee at Asiad

JAKARTA, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese fencer Sun Yiwen won the silver of the women's individual epee at the 2018 Asian Games here on Tuesday.

Kang Young-Mi of South Korea defeated Sun 11-7 in the final, winning her first Asian Games gold.

The bronze medal went to Choi In-Jeong of South Korea and Man Wai Vivian of Hong Kong, China as there are no third-place bouts.

Fencing is a competition of speed and skill using the sword to hit a target in the body of the opponent and made its debut at Asian Games in Tehran in 1974.

The 18th Asiad will stage 465 events out of 40 sports, among which 330 events from 32 sports will feature in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The 2018 Asian Games, attracting more than 10,000 athletes, will run through Sept. 2.
