BEIJING, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- A senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official on Thursday called for the high-quality development of the country's publishing industry.

Huang Kunming, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks when visiting the 25th Beijing International Book Fair (BIBF).

He asked for adherence to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and implementation of the spirit of the national conference on publicity and ideological work, which was held in Beijing on Tuesday and Wednesday, and "adherence to the correct orientation in publishing."

"Publishing work is a significant part of the socialist cultural programs," Huang said. "It should be guided by core socialist values, with emphasis put on inheriting and developing fine traditional Chinese culture and advanced socialist culture."

"The development of the industry must be based on the people-oriented principal, and should focus on creating more fine works and prioritize quality."

Huang also called on the industry to center on the 40th anniversary of the reform and opening-up, and keep an eye on the "building of a community with a shared future for humanity," as well as the Belt and Road Initiative, in order to publish "more fine works that appeal to overseas readers, and show the world a real China in a comprehensive way."

More than 2,500 exhibitors from 93 countries and regions are taking part in the ongoing BIBF, displaying 300,000 books. Among them are 24 countries along the Belt and Road, with Morocco as the guest of honor.
