Ikee Rikako edges Liu Xiang for women's 50m freestyle title

JAKARTA, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- In the showdown of the women's 50m freestyle, Ikee Rikako of Japan outclassed Asian record holder Liu Xiang of China by taking the crown with a Games record of 24.53 seconds at the Asian Games here on Friday.

Liu finished second in 24.60 and Wu Qingfeng third in 24.87.

Liu, 21, who break 50m backstroke world record two days ago, said: "I did not perform my best. I was too eager to win this event and to secure the gold for China. I will come back next time."

Rikako kept unbeaten in all her four individual events, all in Games records, winning 50m, 100m freestyles and 50m, 200m butterflies, plus two relay victories.

Rikako becomes the first women swimmer to win six gold medals in one Games so far in the Asian Games history.
