BEIJING, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- Xinhua News Agency and Oman News Agency (ONA) pledged to expand cooperation Friday.

The pledge was made by the editor-in-chief of Xinhua, He Ping, and Mohamed Araimi, president of Oman Journalists Association and president of ONA, during their meeting in Beijing.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of China-Oman diplomatic ties, and the two countries have forged a strategic partnership, He said, noting that this has provided important opportunities for Xinhua and Oman media outlets to deepen cooperation.

Praising the good relations between Xinhua and ONA, He said that their cooperation has risen to a higher level since the signing of a memorandum of understanding in 2005.

He called on both sides to continue to expand cooperation, especially within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, so as to deepen mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples.

Araimi said Oman media outlets are impressed by Xinhua's global influence. He said he expects more exchanges in news reporting and personnel between ONA and Xinhua, so as to contribute to the strategic partnership between the two countries.
