THE HAGUE, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- PSV became the new leader of the Dutch Eredivisie after a narrow escape at PEC Zwolle and AZ dropped points against Vitesse.
AZ and Vitesse drew 0-0 in Alkmaar on Sunday, with both sides creating some chances, but with little fireworks. With the draw AZ dropped their first points of the season.
On Saturday, PSV booked their third consecutive victory at PEC Zwolle and the team coached by former player Mark van Bommel became the only team with a maximum of nine points after three match rounds. After Mike van Duinen missed a penalty on behalf of the home team, Luuk de Jong gave PSV the lead and Vito van Crooy equalized. Luuk de Jong tipped in a cross by substitute Donyell Malen for his second goal to earn PSV the late 2-1 win in injury-time.
Also on Saturday, Ajax had no trouble with FC Emmen. Hakim Ziyech, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (twice), Dusan Tadic en Glenn Bijl (own goal) earned Ajax a 5-0 win. Ajax and AZ are on seven points now, two behind reigning champions PSV.
Willem II crushed Heracles Almelo 5-0 on Sunday, FC Utrecht drew 1-1 against VVV-Venlo, Feyenoord won 5-3 at sc Heerenveen and FC Groningen beat De Graafschap 1-0 in Doetinchem.
