SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- U.S. cloud infrastructure and digital technology firm VMware Inc. said Sunday that it has expanded its cloud business based on Amazon Web Services (AWS) to the Asia-Pacific region.

"VMware Cloud on AWS is now available across multiple regions globally including the U.S., Europe, and now Asia-Pacific," VMware's senior Vice President Mark Lohmeyer said.

VMware Cloud on AWS provides a fast and cost-effective way to migrate mission-critical applications, or even entire data centers, to the cloud, Lohmeyer, who is also general manager of VMware's cloud platform business, said.

VMware's announcement on Sunday came one year after it signed a deal with Amazon to explore the fast-growing cloud computing market. The service allows enterprises and companies worldwide that are running VMware in their data centers to continue using VMware software on the AWS cloud service. Its software allows different operating systems and multiple applications to run on the same computer.

Headquartered in Palo Alto, California, VMware serves more than 500,000 customers across the globe.
