KIGALI, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Rwanda's tourism sector generated 438 million US dollars in 2017, constituting about 50 percent of all service exports, according to latest report by Rwanda Development Board (RDB).

In terms of origin, visitors from the East African Community generated highest revenue across all categories at 25 percent, Europe 22 percent while the rest of Africa 21 percent, the report shows.

Rwanda has developed the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events (MICE) strategy meant to partly drive the agenda to make the country a tourism and international conference hub.

According to the report, over the last decade, MICE revenue grew by 180 percent while the number of delegates visiting Rwanda jumped from 15,000 to 28,300 in the same period.

Today, tourism is Rwanda's largest foreign exchange earner and has generated over 90,000 jobs so far, according to Rwanda Development Board.

The national goal is to double tourism receipts to 800 million US dollars by 2024, it says.
