DUBAI, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- A Dubai court has sentenced an Egyptian man to three years in jail for kidnapping seven Asian housemaids from Dubai International Airport, local media reported Tuesday.

The 29-year-old Egyptian pretended to be the official contact person at the recruitment office in the airport and took the housemaids to a property in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), local daily Khaleej Times reported.

The man then assigned the maids to work for different families, the report said.

The accused also embezzled money from more than four men by showing forged employment contracts.

The Dubai Court of First Instance found him guilty of charges of kidnapping, unlawful deprivation of freedom, fraud and embezzlement and forgery.

A 35-year-old Indonesian housemaid appeared in court to give testimony about the ordeal the victims went through.

Two other Indonesian housemaids, aged 28 and 31, gave similar testimonies to Dubai Public Prosecution.

A 28-year-old Emirati man also gave testimony on how the accused tricked him to pay 12,500 dirham (3,375 U.S. dollars), as a "deposit" which he could get back should the maid not pass one-month probation.

The Egyptian man will be deported upon completion of his jail sentence, the report said.
