MADRID, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Real Madrid confirmed on Wednesday they have signed striker Mariano Diaz from Olympique Lyon for a fee of around 22 million euros.

The French club also confirmed the agreement adding that they will receive 15 percent of any transfer fee should Madrid sell him in the future.

The move means the striker, who was born in Spain, but represents the Dominican Republic, returns to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium just a year after Madrid sold him to Lyon for 8 million euros and also ends Madrid's search of a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 25-year-old is Real Madrid's fourth new arrival this summer after those of Thibaut Courtois, Vinicius Jr (who last weekend played in Madrid's B-team) and Alvaro Odriozoloa.

He has agreed a five-year contract with Real Madrid and will be presented in the Santiago Bernabeu on Friday lunchtime.

Mariano scored 27 goals for Madrid's B-team in the 2015-16 season, but the following campaign found chances limited in the first team and moved to France where he earned his return ticket thanks to scoring 21 goals in 45 matches for Lyon.

Sevilla had been interested in signing him and their interest prompted Madrid to take up the option they maintained on Mariano when they sold him a year ago. Enditem
