ASUNCION, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Carlos Tevez came off the bench to score as six-time champions Boca Juniors advanced to the Copa Libertadores quarterfinals on Thursday with a 4-2 victory over Libertad.

The result at Defensores del Chaco stadium in Paraguayan capital Asuncion gave the Argentine side a 6-2 aggregate victory over two legs.

Oscar Cardozo opened the scoring for the hosts with a chipped effort from a tight angle before Argentina international winger Cristian Pavon equalized by firing into an unguarded net after goalkeeper Rodrigo Munoz rushed off his line.

Mauro Zarate put the Argentine side ahead from close range following a superb lofted pass from Dario Benedetto but Cardozo again squared the ledger from the penalty spot.

Tevez replaced Zarate in the 56th minute and the former Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus forward left his mark with a fine volley after Paolo Goltz's pass.

Colombian midfielder Edwin Cardona put the result beyond doubt by converting another penalty for the visitors.

In Thursday's only other match, Brazil's Palmeiras also progressed to the last eight despite a 1-0 home loss to Paraguay's Cerro Porteno. The Sao Paulo giants prevailed 2-1 over both legs.
