Indonesia wins Asiad gold medal in sepaktakraw

PALEMBANG, Indonesia, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia won a gold medal in Asian Games men's quadrant sepaktakraw after defeated Japan 2-1 in the final match held here on Saturday.

Under intensive pressures demonstrated by Japanese players, Indonesian team lost the first set 15-21.

The host team managed to shrug off pressures, turned up the situation for their advantages in the second set that ended 21-14.

Indonesian closed the decisive set with a convincing score of 21-16.

"Japan made intensive pressures in the first set with an aim to ruin our players' mentality. Mental factor is very important in Sepaktakraw. That is why we lost in the first set," Indonesian team coach Asry Syam said after the match.

The Indonesian coach said he changed the strategy in the second and third sets and the changes were effective and resulted in a victory for the host team.

Japan settled for the silver medal and the bronze medal was shared by Singapore and Vietnam.
