BEIJING, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- The number of visitors to the China Science and Technology Museum (CSTM) reached 50 million on Wednesday when a commemorative activity was held.

Mr. Xing and his family, from Beijing, were chosen as the lucky visitors. CSTM deputy curator Liao Hong showed them around, watching and interacting with some of the must-see exhibitions. The curator, Yin Hao, presented them a lifetime pass.

"The activity is held to thank the public for their support, as well as to encourage the public to love, learn and use science," said Yin.

Yin added it aims to inspire social innovativeness and creativity.

The museum was opened in 1988 at its former site and had received more than 21 million visitors over 20 years. The new museum, located close to the Olympic Stadium, was opened on Sept. 16, 2009, and has so far received about 29 million visitors from home and abroad.

As a state-level infrastructure for science education, the CSTM exhibitions play an important role in raising the public awareness of science and technology by providing interactive experiences for visitors.

CSTM hosted an international tour in Myanmar this June, the first time the museum staged an exhibition overseas. In the future, it will provide more exhibitions for people from the countries and regions along the Belt and Road, said Yin.
