SAO PAULO, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- Palmeiras kept alive their Brazilian Serie A title hopes on Sunday with a 1-0 home win over local rivals and defending champions Corinthians.

Forward Deyverson struck just before the hour mark at Allianz Parque by timing his run to perfection and latching onto Marco Rocha's cross with a deft first-time finish.

Palmeiras have now won three straight matches in Brazil's top flight and are unbeaten in the league since former Brazil boss Luiz Felipe Scolari replaced Roger Machado as coach in late July.

The nine-time Serie A champions remain third in the 20-team standings, three points behind leaders Internacional, who beat Gremio 1-0 on Sunday.

In Rio de Janeiro, Fluminense continued their impressive recent form by overcoming Botafogo 1-0, thanks to an 11th-minute Digao striker.

The result lifted Fluminense to eighth in the standings while Botafogo slumped to 15th.
