Namibia's Commonwealth champion Johannes to run Africa's top marathon in Cape Town

WINDHOEK, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Namibian and Commonwealth champion, Helalia Johannes together with Sanlam Coastal Marathon winners, Ottilie Aimwata and Mynhardt Kauanivi will represent the country in the 42.2km Sanlam Cape Town Marathon in South Africa.

The marathon will take place on Sept. 22 and 23 and will attract professional athletes and fitness enthusiasts from all over the continent and the world.

Sanlam Namibia's Marketing and Communications Manager, Hilaria Graig on Wednesday said with over 23 international running clubs, including a world class elite field of athletes and over 11,000 runners in attendance, the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon is Africa's most prestigious event.

The event will offer three different categories namely the 5km fun walk, the 10km race and the 42km marathon.

According to Graig, the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon continues to grow and attract athletes from all over the world.

Meanwhile Graig said this year as part of the company's way of giving back to the community in the country, one lucky father and daughter could win an all-expense paid trip to Cape Town to participate in any of the of the marathon categories.
