ULAN BATOR, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Mongolia's industrial output expanded 19.8 percent year-on-year in the first eight months of 2018, amounting to 9.8 trillion Mongolian Tugriks (about 4 billion U.S. dollars), data released by the country's National Statistics Office showed Wednesday.

Output of the main mining and extractive industry products rose by 18.2 percent, which is the main cause of industrial production growth, the agency said.

In particular, raw coal production increased by 46 percent, and iron ore production grew by 5.9 percent year-on-year in the January-August period this year, compared to the same period last year.

The mining industry products account for about 80 percent of the landlocked Asian country's total industrial production, according to statistics.
