BEIJING, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislator Li Zhanshu Friday called on China and Venezuela to promote the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership to a new high.

Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, made the remarks during a meeting with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

Li said under the leadership of Chinese President Xi Jinping and President Maduro, the two countries enjoyed high-level political mutual trust, supported each other on international issues and achieved fruitful results on practical cooperation.

China firmly supported the Venezuelan people's efforts on safeguarding their national sovereignty and dignity as well as the country's choice on the development path that conformed to its own national conditions, Li said.

He called on the two countries to implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state and jointly promote the building of a new type of international relations and a community with a shared future for humanity.

For his part, Maduro said his visit to China aimed to work with President Xi to chart the future course for bilateral ties and deepen practical cooperation.
