NEW YORK, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks traded on a downbeat note on Monday as steep losses in some of the biggest tech shares weighed on the market.

At midday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average retreated 21.67 points, or 0.08 percent, to 26,133.00. The S&P 500 was down 7.63 points, or 0.26 percent, to 2,897.35. The Nasdaq Composite Index slipped 63.83 points, or 0.80 percent, to 7,946.21.

Tech sector traded 0.8 percent lower around midday. Shares of U.S. e-commerce giant Amazon slid 2.19 percent. Apple shares declined 1.68 percent and Twitter fell 3.65 percent.

Lingering trade fears also put pressure on the broader market after reports over the weekend that the United States will pursue further international tariffs.

U.S. stocks advanced in the week ending Sept. 14 as investors digested a batch of economic data amid trade concerns.

All three major indices reported positive results, with the Dow, the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq climbing 0.92 percent, 1.16 percent and 1.36 percent, respectively. Enditem
