BERLIN, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- German navy frigate "Schleswig-Holstein" sailed back to Kiel after a fire broke out during its training cruise injuring ten soldiers, according to a German navy statement issued on Wednesday.

The warship departed from Germany's northern harbor of Flensburg for an operational test, and around 20:00 Monday smoke was discovered on board, according to the statement.

An electrical fire broke out at a control panel on the ship and a total of ten soldiers inhaled hazardous gas, the statement said.

One of the injured was in serious condition and transferred to the rescue ship "Berlin" on Monday night, while seven soldiers were taken to the hospitals after the ship docked at the naval shipyard in Kiel.

The rest two slightly injured stayed on board.

The ship was being examined and repaired. Some parts needed to be replaced and an extensive cleaning will be conducted to contain the toxic substance, said the statement. Enditem
