U.S. stocks trade mixed amid data

NEW YORK, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks traded mixed on Friday after a robust session as investors were digesting a slew of economic data.

At midday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 101.29 points, or 0.38 percent, to 26,758.27. The S&P 500 was up 6.61 points, or 0.23 percent, to 2,937.36. The Nasdaq Composite Index decreased 3.15 points, or 0.04 percent, to 8,025.09.

McDonald's and Boeing led the winners in the Dow. Shares of the companies rose 2.26 percent and 1.29 percent respectively around midday. Nine of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors traded higher, with telecom and industrials leading the gainers. The Nasdaq declined as Micron Technology led some of the major tech stocks lower. Shares of the U.S. chipmaker slid more than 2.4 percent at midday.

On economic data, the seasonally adjusted IHS Markit Flash U.S. Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) registered at 55.6 in September, up from 54.7 in August, according to report released by the data provider on Friday.

Meanwhile, the seasonally adjusted IHS Markit Flash U.S. Services PMI Business Activity Index dropped to 52.9 in September from 54.8 in August, to signal the weakest expansion of service sector output since March 2017. Enditem
