DAMASCUS, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Two loud explosions were heard in Syria's northern city of Aleppo on Friday, in what appeared to be rebels' rocket fire targeting residential areas, a war monitor reported.

The explosions were heard in the Hamadaniyeh neighborhood and the 3000 Housing Project area west of Aleppo, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The UK-based watchdog group said there is no information on casualties yet.

The state-run al-Ekhbaria TV said that a rocket slammed the 3000 Housing Project area, spelling no details on victims.

This comes as clashes erupted Friday between the Syrian army forces and the Turkey-backed rebels in the northeastern countryside of Aleppo, according to the Observatory.

The Syrian forces fully retrieved the provincial capital of Aleppo in late 2016, but the northern countryside is largely out of control, particularly those close to the Turkish border.
