JERUSALEM, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- An Israeli aircraft on Friday carried out several strikes in the northern Gaza Strip, said the Israeli army.
Over 10,000 Palestinians demonstrated Friday afternoon and evening in several locations along the Gaza Strip border security fence, according to the statement issued by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
The demonstrators hurled grenades and explosive devices, burned tires and threw rocks at Israeli troops and at the security fence, said the Israeli army, adding that Israeli forces spotted several infiltration attempts.
According to the statement, Israeli troops responded with riot dispersal means and fired in accordance with standard operating procedures.
According to a Palestinian report, one demonstrator was killed during the clashes.
Earlier on Friday, a piece of shrapnel hit an Israeli combat soldier, lightly injuring him, said the IDF. The soldier was taken to a hospital for further treatment.
At the same time, fires broke in six Israeli fields close to the border because of burning kites and balloons launches from the Gaza Strip.
In response to the events, the Israeli aircraft carried out strikes in the northern Gaza Strip.
