Macao's visitor arrivals reach 3.4 million in August

MACAO, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- The visitor arrivals in China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) totalled 3.4 million in August this year, up by 12.2 percent month-to-month and 18.7 percent year-on-year respectively, the SARs statistics bureau said on Monday.

Information from the Statistics and Census Service indicated that the overnight visitors reached 1.80 million, and the same-day visitors reached 1.60 million, up by 16.3 percent and 21.6 percent respectively year-on-year.

The average length of stay of visitors dropped by 0.1 day year-on-year to 1.2 days, and that of overnight visitors and same-day visitors stayed at 2.2 days and 0.2 day respectively.

Visitors from the Chinese mainland increased by 25.3 percent year-on-year to 2.53 million in August, with those travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme rising by 31.0 percent to 1.31 million. Visitors from Chinas Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (556,372) and Chinas Taiwan Region (94,123) went up by 5.0 percent and 1.7 percent respectively year-on-year.

Those from South Korea (66,052) decreased by 12.6 percent. Meanwhile, visitors from the United States, Australia, Canada and Britain registered year-on-year growth.

In the first eight months of 2018, visitor arrivals totalled 23.25 million, up by 8.9 percent year-on-year. Overnight visitors (12.20 million) and same-day visitors (11.05 million) grew by 8.4 percent and 9.4 percent respectively.
