MADRID, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- The plans of the Spanish Football League (La Liga) to play a Liga Santander game in the USA for 15 years suffered another setback on Monday when the Spanish Footballers' Union (AFE) issued a communique rejecting the scheme.

The communique comes three days after the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) refused to give their permission for the game to go ahead, alleging it could affect the "integrity and general sporting principles" of the competition and could have "an influence on the conditions of fairness that must be upheld at all times."

La Liga want the first game played in the USA to be between Girona and FC Barcelona in Miami at the end of January 2019, however, the AFE advise that "for the moment there are not the relevant authorizations to make it possible to play the game in the United States."

The AFE also complains about the lack of information it has received about the plan, explaining "for that reason the AFE has told La Liga it is not in agreement with the dispute of that game" and add that "all parties" have to be in agreement.

Sunday saw Real Madrid President Florentino Perez also made public his opposition to the scheme at the club's General Assembly saying Real Madrid "will not go to the United States, we refuse totally to do so."
