RIO DE JANEIRO, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Brazilian government released on Monday an official statement, condemning the terrorist attack in Iran on Saturday.

"The Brazilian government vehemently condemns the attack," said the statement published by the Brazilian Foreign Ministry.

"As it expresses its condolences to the families of the victims, as well as wishes for a prompt recuperation of the injured, and its solidarity to the people and government of Iran, Brazil reiterates its repudiation to all and any act of terrorism, regardless of its motivation," the statement said.

The terror attack against a military parade in the southern Iranian Ahvaz city on Saturday left at least 24 dead and over 60 people injured. According to local media, civilians, including children who were watching the parade, are among the dead.

So far, the identities of the attackers remain unclear, although both the Islamic State (IS) and another group called Al-Ahwaz claimed the responsibility.

The attack has intensified tensions between Iran and the United States, as Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei repeatedly accused the United States and its Arab allies of being behind the attack.

The United States has denied the accusation.
