Oil prices fall as U.S. crude inventories rise

NEW YORK, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Oil prices declined on Wednesday as official data showed a surprise build in U.S. crude stockpiles.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) said in a weekly report on Wednesday that the country's crude stocks rose by 1.9 million barrels last week, snapping a five-week declining streak.

U.S. gasoline stockpiles rose 1.5 million barrels for the week, while distillate stockpiles fell by 2.2 million barrels, according to the EIA.

U.S. sanctions on Iran was also in focus, as U.S. President Donald Trump ratcheted up pressure on allies to adhere to upcoming U.S. sanctions on Iranian crude.

The West Texas Intermediate for November delivery fell 0.71 U.S. dollar to settle at 71.57 dollars a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, while Brent crude for November delivery lost 0.53 dollar to 81.35 dollars a barrel on the London ICE Futures Exchange. Enditem
