LANZHOU, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Sun Chunlan has asked for more efforts to improve education and to nurture generations of capable young people so they are well-prepared to join the socialist cause.

Sun, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks during an inspection tour in northwest China's Gansu Province.

Young people should be fostered to have an all-round moral, intellectual, physical and aesthetic grounding with a hard-working spirit, Sun said.

When visiting a kindergarten and a primary school in the city of Dunhuang, Gansu, Sun called for easier access to preschool education, tightened regulation over schools' curriculums and an improved evaluation system for students to achieve all-round development.

Sun also urged for better allocation of education resources, building small-scale schools in less populated villages, setting up boarding schools in towns, and improving the income and working conditions of teachers.

During the inspection, Sun also visited the Mogao Grottoes, a world heritage site in Gansu, where she stressed the need to ensure the safety and security of cultural relics and the use of digital technology in the display of traditional culture.
