AEK Athens lose 3-2 to Benfica at UEFA Champions League

ATHENS, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- AEK Athens suffered a 3-2 home defeat to Benfica in their UEFA Champions League group match here on Tuesday.

At home for the first time during the Champions League adventure, the Greek side conceded a pair of early goals and eventually lost to the Portuguese outfit 3-2 at the OAKA Stadium in Athens to place fourth with no points.

Benfica started out impressively with a double scored in the first 15 minutes through Haris Seferovic (6) and Alex Grimaldo (15).

Shortly before the end of the first half, Ruben Dias of Benfica was sent off for his second yellow card.

With 18 minutes into the second half, AEK levelled the score as Viktor Klonaridis struck twice in the 53rd and 63rd minutes.

Then came the decisive 74th minute when Nelson Semedo scored the winner for Benfica.

Also on Tuesday, Bayern Munich tied Ajax 1-1 at home to share the lead with four points each in the group, Benfica are third with three points and AEK tail without points.

On Oct. 23, AEK Athens will take on Bayern Munich and Ajax play Benfica.
