Afghan courts sentence 19 drug-related suspects

KABUL, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Two Afghan courts imprisoned 19 suspects including one woman over smuggling drugs after investigating into 12 drugs-related cases elsewhere in the country, a statement said on Wednesday.

"Primary and appellate court's of Central Narcotics Tribunal (CNT), during open sessions over the last seven days, sentenced up to 19 suspects including one woman involved in 12 drug-related cases from 18 months to 13 years in jail," counter-narcotics Criminal Justice Task Force of Afghanistan (CJTF) said in the statement.

The CNT is a special Afghan court for jurisdiction of major drug cases.

Among other items confiscated by security organs from the suspects were up to 214 kg heroin, 8 kg of opium, 1,026 kg hashish and 663 grams methamphetamine, the statement noted.
