RIYADH, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- A fire at a petrochemical plant in western Saudi Arabia on Tuesday killed one worker and injured 11 others, local media reported on Wednesday.

The fatal blaze erupted at a plant belonging to the National Petrochemical Industrial Company (NATPET) in Yanbu province on the Red Sea coast, the spokesperson for the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, Abdul Rahman Abdul Qader, told Al-ekhbariya TV in an early hour on Wednesday.

Abdul Qader said the situation had been brought under control and industrial accident control teams were working on cooling the site.

Preliminary indications suggest that the cause of fire was technical reasons related to the industrial processes within the industrial zone, he added.
