GAZA, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Israeli soldiers stationed on the border with northern Gaza Strip shot dead on Wednesday evening a Palestinian teenager during clashes with dozens of Palestinian protesters, medics said.

Ashraf al-Qedra, spokesman of the health ministry in Gaza told reporters that Ahmad Abu Habbel, a 15-year-old boy, was shot in the head by Israeli soldiers' gunfire in northern Gaza Strip, close to the border with Israel.

Al-Qedra also said that around 25 Palestinians were injured; six of them were injured by live gunshots in the area and the others suffered suffocation after inhaling the tear gas fired by Israeli soldiers.

Local media reports said that a boy was killed and 25 others were injured during clashes that erupted on Wednesday afternoon between dozens of Palestinian protesters and Israeli soldiers on the border.

The high commission of the marches of return to break the Israeli blockade had earlier called for a demonstration in northern Gaza in solidarity with Palestinian refugees.

Earlier Wednesday, al Qedra said in a press statement that the health ministry affirms that Ibrahim al Arouqi, 78 years old from al-Mughazi refugee camp in central Gaza Strip, was killed on Tuesday afternoon by Israeli gunshot in his back.

Eyewitnesses said that Arouqi was shot when he was at home, close to the border with Israel when Israeli soldiers opened intensive gunfire at a group of Palestinian young men who broke into the border on Tuesday afternoon.

Al-Qedra said that since March 30, the Israeli army shot dead 195 Palestinians and wounded 21,000 others.

Since the United States President Donald Trump declared Jerusalem as the Israeli capital on December 6, the Palestinians intensified their almost daily protests against Israel in the West Bank and particularly in the Gaza Strip.

Ongoing Palestinian protests and demonstrations are to continue although Egypt tried in vain to mediate to reach calm in the Gaza Strip between Hamas-led groups and Israel.
