ADEN, Yemen, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- At least five Houthi rebels were killed and 15 others injured in armed confrontations with the Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces in Yemen's southwestern province of Taiz on Sunday, state-run Saba news agency reported.
The government forces aborted an attack by a group of Houthi rebels against key military positions in Taiz.
The Houthi rebels withdrew after failing to seize the government-controlled military sites and losing their weapons, according to Saba.
The Houthi-affiliated Masirah television station reported that two coordinated attacks targeted military sites of pro-government fighters in Taiz, but it didn't give further details or casualty figures among the pro-government fighters.
Yemen has been locked into a civil war since the Iran-backed Shiite Houthi rebels overran much of the country militarily and seized all northern provinces, including the capital Sanaa, in 2014.
Saudi Arabia is leading an Arab military coalition that intervened in the Yemeni war in 2015 to support the government of exiled President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi.
The internal military conflict between the Houthis and the Yemeni government recently entered its fourth year. More than 10,000 Yemenis, mostly civilians, have been killed in the war, with about 3 million others displaced.
