BUENOS AIRES, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Denmark's Stephanie Grundsoee overcame a late challenge by India's Mehuli Ghosh to win gold in the girls' 10m air rifle at the Youth Olympics on Monday.
Grundsoee shot 10.4 with her final attempt, leaving her rival needing a 9.9 to win. However Ghosh could only manage 9.1, to finish just seven tenths of a point behind the Dane. Serbia's Marija Malic took bronze with 226.2 points.
"It was a very nervous few seconds after my last shot," Grundsoee said. "I shot a 10.4 and I know that is a high score, but I also knew it was going to be difficult to win gold with that. I didn't hope that Mehuli did bad, but I'm happy I won the gold medal in the end."
Ghosh was delighted with her performance despite a disappointing finale. "This is a very proud moment for me," she said. "It is a second medal for India in shooting in this Games, which is a pretty good feeling."
China's Wang Zeru finished fifth with a total score of 185.8.
