ACCRA, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has called off Ghana's 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Sierra Leone. The qualifiers were scheduled to take place in Kumasi on Thursday and in Freetown four days later.

It follows Sierra Leone's failure to meet FIFA's Oct. 9 deadline to reinstate the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) president Isha Johansen and general secretary Christopher Kamara, after the organization was banned by FIFA last Friday for government interference.

"The AFCON qualifier matches between Ghana and Sierra Leone on 11 and 14 October have been cancelled as the SLFA did not meet the conditions stipulated in the letter sent by CAF on FIFA's decision to suspend the federation," CAF said.

The Sierra Leone FA urged their government to find a solution to the disagreement while speaking to FIFA in order to honor the qualifiers under a special dispensation condition. FIFA threatened to maintain the ban and cancel the matches if Sierra Leone failed to resolve the situation.
