BUENOS AIRES, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Argentina created history on Sunday by defeating India 3-1 in the final of the girls' hockey tournament at the Youth Olympics.

Gianella Palet, Sofia Ramallo and Brisa Bruggesser scored for the hosts while Mumtaz Khan netted India's only goal.

It marked the first time that Argentina have won a youth or senior Olympic gold medal in women's hockey.

In the first edition of the Youth Olympics, Singapore 2010, Argentina's girls took silver and at Nanjing 2014 they claimed bronze.

Meanwhile, China won the bronze medal match here with a 6-0 rout of South Africa.

India were also beaten finalists in the boys' category, going down 4-2 to Malaysia. Argentina took the boys' bronze medal courtesy of a 4-0 win over Zambia earlier on Sunday.
