Uzbekistan's population exceeds 33 million

TASHKENT, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Uzbekistan's total population stood at around 33.09 million as of Oct. 1, growing by 1.3 percent from a year ago, according to a recent report by the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

The urban population amounted to 16.73 million, or 50.6 percent of the total population, and the rural population reached 16.36 million. The resident population of Tashkent was about 2.50 million, increasing by 1.3 percent since the beginning of 2018.

Analysis by regions of the country showed that the largest population was observed in Samarkand and Fergana, accounting for 22.5 percent of the total, and the smallest population in Syrdarya and Navoi, accounting for only 5.4 percent.

The population of Uzbekistan has increased fairly steadily over the past 60 years, from around 6 million in the 1950s to over 33 million today.
