ADEN, Yemen, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Yemen's internationally-backed President Abdu-Rabbu Mansour Hadi sacked on Monday Prime Minister Ahmed Obeid bin Daghr over sharp economic crisis and currency depreciation, state-run Saba news agency reported.

According to the statement released by Saba, "President Hadi issued the dismissal decision following the carelessness and failure that accompanied bin Daghr's government particularly in the economic field."

Hadi appointed Maeen Abdulmalik Saeed as the new Prime Minister, referring former PM bin Daghr for investigation over his government inefficiency concerning Mahra cyclone and the economic collapse.

"The government failed in easing the suffering of the Yemeni people, resolving their problems and meeting their demands given its inability to take real measures to stop the deterioration of the country's economy," according Hadi's decision.

The new PM previously worked as Minister of Public Roads and Highways in bin Daghr's cabinet and succeeded in many rebuilding projects, the observers said.

Earlier this month, the pro-secesssion Southern Transitional Council blamed the Yemeni government for rampant corruption, calling for a public uprising in the port city of Aden and other neighboring main cities.

In response, the Yemeni government and its Interior Ministry beefed up security measures around government institutions in Aden and vowed to protect the city from sabotage elements.

The southern port city of Aden, where Yemen's government is temporarily based itself, has been suffering from frequent power outages and lack of basic services including water, leading to a public anger against the local authorities.

The impoverished Arab country has been locked into a civil war since the Shiite Houthi rebels overran much of the country militarily and seized all northern provinces, including capital Sanaa, in 2014.
